Example pages from Miniature Sculpted Orchids Tutorial 1

This polymer clay tutorial is the first of my Miniature Sculpted Orchids Tutorials. I am planning to eventually have four tutorials; each for a different type of orchids. In this series, I will explain not only how to sculpt all these flowers, but also how to make different millefiori canes for leaves and different shapes of leaves, how to apply these sculpted details to different bases, such as polymer clay, shells, sea glass, and gems. I will also show you how to incorporate various embellishments in your designs, including beads, pearls, and semi-precious stones.

The tutorial includes:
  • Detailed step-by-step instructions for free-hand sculpting of cattleya orchids with spotted petals and a striped lip;
  • Thorough explanation of how to make each millefiori cane used in this project;
  • Instructions for creating a polymer clay bead base with lots of interesting details and patina;
  • Additional notes and tips to guide you though this project;
  • Almost fifty big full-color pictures showing every step;
  • Detailed list of materials;
  • Complete list of tools needed to finish this project.

Pre-requisites: Some previous experience with polymer clay is helpful, but not necessary.

A few more jewelry pieces created using the techniques similar to those described in this tutorial:
